Sorelle Garzo

Calabria- Italy

Sorelle Garzo Farm, situated in Seminara within the province of Reggio Calabria, was established in 1965 by Pietrino Garzo, who acquired an olive oil mill. The land boasts ancient Ottobratica and Sinopolese olive trees.

As the generations passed, the olive mill underwent a complete renovation, evolving into a modern, continuous-cycle plant. In the early 2000s, the sisters of the Garzo family launched their own brand of extra virgin olive oil – Dolciterre. Every step of the production process, including harvesting, extraction, storage, and bottling, is managed in-house by the company.

Calabrian Native Olive Varities

they believed from the beginning in quality product and in enhancing the cultivars native to the Calabrian territory, which is located on the slopes of Aspromonte.
One of the most significant cultivated varieties is the Ottobratica which has majestic trees and consequently difficult to manage if you want a high quality oil.
The trees have to be cared for and kept at a size where they are able to harvest the olives at their proper point of ripeness.

In the past, as trees were important in size, people waited for the olives to fall to the ground and then picked and brought to press.
If overripe and rotten olives were pressed, what oil could we expect to get?
However, the oil was not of high quality and had lost most of its nutritional and therapeutic properties.

The harvest time of this variety, as its name implies is October.
